Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay Speaks to the Nation on the Joyous Occasion of 34th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty (direct translation from the recorder; grammatical mistakes are under your kind correction)
Lyonchen Tshering Tobgay said, from today back to 10 years, in 2003, during the celebration of 96thNational Day, as a prince of fourth Druk Gyalpo got first opportunity as an audience to meet with the people of Bhutan at Changlimithang.
During that time, as a prince in his mind he thought about risk involved in the life of his father and the country as a whole, still then he kept this problems aside and said that everything is fine and that reminiscence comes in our mind today.
The reason for saying this is, during that time people were worried about the instability of our country and the prince said that His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo and military forces are safe. He further stated that, it did not affect the security of the country in tackling those problems.
During the historical reign of our country, we the people of Bhutan have much gratitude to fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck. He added that, not only that but while the prince was as a Trongsa poenlop and till as a King of Bhutan, people of Bhutan are wholly fortunate.
Although our country is small and we do not have resources as of other countries, still then within 10 years, His Majesty became Trongsa poenlop and then ascended to the throne. And within this short period of time he achieved incredible needs of the people and the country.
For instance, our country’s sovereignty, unity among people and the peace established by the Wangchuck Dynasty was further strengthened by His Majesty.
Their Majesties confided and trusted the people of Bhutan and instituted democracy with strong foundation. Moreover, his majesty strengthened the rule of law to promote good governance.
While coming to the international exertion, his majesty strengthened the good relationship with the neighboring country India. Further His Majesty as a king interacted and gave valuable advice to monastic bodies, military groups, civil servants, business men, school going children, private companies and farmers.
His Majesty also went every nook and corner of our country walking by foot and saw the genuine needs of the people. Each individual were granted kiddu. This was done within very short period of time by His Majesty.
On this joyous occasion of 34th birth anniversary of His Majesty, I on behalf of distinguish guests and people of Bhutan wish his majesty happy birthday.
Today we meet together and it is extremely important to remember the good deed of His Majesty. For instance, for those people who could not support themselves, old people and the persons with disability, His Majesty with his heart and soul granted food, clothing, shelter and monthly salary kiddu.

As we know that our country is mountainous and there is less amount of land where people can work on agriculture. For those who do not have enough land was granted kiddu by His Majesty. People should understand that such noble practice is not there in the world. Making best use of the land is the option that I can see as a reimbursement for granting kiddu by His Majesty.

His Majesty also granted census kiddu for about 8486 people and I want to congratulate them. Henceforth, it is important to think that we are living under one king and we are always united for all times to come.
Coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty, the day is also celebrated as the National Education Day. This is because of the unique support that his majesty gives into educating citizens of the country. I want to thank students and teachers who are gathered here today. His Majesty interacted with students across the countries sharing moral stories to the younger ones and provides direction and advice to the elders which paves path toward betterment through education.
From 2006, there was a very distinctive culture instituted in the country. It is the providing certificates of recognition for those students doing extremely well in their studies. In 2013, from 408 schools and 11 colleges His Majesty provided certificates to about 1250 students. To all the youth I want to tell you that His Majesty has always treated you as his own brothers and sisters and it’s important that you serve your king, country, parents and teacher with utmost dedication.

These days the decorum in the country is weakening and we hear that number of youth indulging in drugs is increasing exponentially. To this cause government is not going to tolerate. If a student is found into it, without excuses we will expel the student. Likewise for those drug dealers we will pose heavy penalties.
His Majesty without hesitance always shares about the economic status of our country. These days we have rupee crunch and there is every chance that there will be excessive debt for our country. We have very less production in the country. We import everything from other countries and this is the very reason of less employment opportunity in the country.
However, as His Majesty always say that Bhutanese people have the capability. It is not about the strength or the availability of the resources in the country but how much people have done so far.
